2019 is the 150th year of Gandhi Jayanthi and as the world celebrates the the spirit of the Father of the Nation, textile revivalist and handlooms designer Gaurang Shah found a unique way to pay tribute the great leader. It was a coming together of  two art, Jamdani on Khadi and famed Painting Raja Ravi Varma.

The chief guest of honour Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev was truly in Awe of Gaurang’s Khadi Weaving Artistry.

At the National Gallery of Modern Art, in Mumbai Designer Gaurang Shah showcased a collection of sarees in Khadi, mirroring Gandhian ethos.

The collection of 33 handcrafted sarees in their pallu had the painting of painter Raja Ravi Varma woven in jamdani handweave and eco-friendly colours. Incidentally, the death anniversary of Raja Ravi Varma falls on the same day as Gandhi Jayanti, on October 2.

The designer created 600 shades of color to match the painting intricacy and detailing of every element in the painting the background, the human faces and expressions to perfection. The project took almost 3 years to come to life.

The show is open to public from 2nd October and will be remain open uptill 15th November 2019. The show was formally opened by Sadguru Jaggi Vasudev.
